Design leadership through frameworks and trust.

I build teams and systems that deliver measurable impact. Over 20 years, I've scaled design organizations, established research infrastructure from scratch, and created frameworks that let teams move faster as companies grow.

At Paycor, I grew a 9-person team into a 22-person organization that earned four 2024 HR Tech Awards for "highest adoption rates ever seen" and "clean, intuitive" experiences. At P&G, I helped grow "Alchemy" from 2 to 12 designers, proving product-led design beats the traditional agency-led approach.

My leadership approach travels across industries. Whether it's HCM software, consumer products, or connected devices, the fundamentals stay the same: build teams where designers feel safe to fail, establish processes that deliver under pressure, and create connections that survive organizational change.

Professional Journey

My career has been about proving that design can reshape how companies work—not just how products look.

At P&G, I joined "Alchemy" as the second designer in this internal skunkworks group. Over four years, I grew the team from 2 to 12 designers. We took on a challenge: could product-led design thinking beat the traditional waterfall, agency-led approach that dominated the company? The answer was yes. We moved faster, learned quicker, and delivered better results by putting designers at the center of product development instead of at the end of the line.

Then I moved to Oral Care IT and established design operations for Oral-B Digital. The work was a different shape. This was the companion app for Oral-B's full line of Bluetooth-connected toothbrushes, software wrapped around hardware people hold in their hands twice a day. I led the app's relaunch across U.S. and Germany teams, brought in Figma as the unified workspace, and introduced dual-track design so we could ship predictably against hardware dates that don't move. We shipped on time, and the Apple Store rating climbed from 4.2 to 4.7.

I joined Paycor in 2021 as Director of Product Design with a team of 9 in transition and a product facing market headwinds. Within 90 days, I moved the entire organization from Sketch to Figma, centralizing work that had been scattered across multiple computers. Designers, product managers, and engineers finally knew exactly what the most up-to-date file was. By six months, I had rebuilt the team — bringing in new talent while promoting three high performers into leadership roles. Over the next three years, I grew the team to 22 product designers and managers, building the research infrastructure, design operations, and AI tools we needed to scale.

The real work was changing how design fit into the business. I led the creation of our UI/UX Vision that positioned user experience as central to Paycor's business strategy. That vision drove initiatives like our Dashboard Transformation, which flipped UI/UX from a top sales objection into a competitive advantage. I created frameworks like the Good, Better, Best framework that helped product teams make faster decisions. This was adopted across the organization and developed further into a company-wide planning framework after the acquisition. I developed Discovery/Research Swimlanes with product management leaders that clarified where each discipline leads and where we collaborate.

When Paychex acquired Paycor in April 2025, I led my team through the transition with transparency and care — and held the team together with zero attrition through months of uncertainty. After four years of building, I'm ready for the next challenge.

Leadership Philosophy

The best work I’ve done isn’t designing interfaces — it’s designing organizational systems. Frameworks that scale. Processes that enable. Structures that let great work happen without me in every decision.

Design doesn't happen in silos. I create bridges between designers, product managers, engineers, and executives — relationships that survive constant change and keep UX front and center when decisions get made.

I practice what Molly Graham calls “giving away your Legos” — teaching others to own the work while I focus on what’s next. My greatest satisfaction comes from watching leaders I’ve coached succeed long after I’ve moved to new challenges. The best design leaders become unnecessary to the day-to-day because they've built systems that work without constant intervention.

I value people over process, outcomes over output, and creating space for “beautiful failures” — the kind of smart risks that teach us something even when they don’t work out. Teams I’ve led know what success looks like, have the tools and autonomy to get there, and feel safe taking calculated risks.

Recognition

During my tenure at Paycor, the company received multiple industry awards recognizing product quality and user experience:

2024 HR Tech Awards (Four Categories)

Paycor's solutions were cited for having "some of the highest adoption rates ever seen in nominees" and creating experiences that are "clean, intuitive and action oriented to increase engagement."

TrustRadius 2025 Top Rated Awards (Three Categories)

Recognition based on real customer reviews for user-friendly payroll, HR management, and talent management solutions.

2025 Competitor NPS Study (Third-Party)

Paycor ranked #1 for customer satisfaction among major HCM providers in an independent study of 800+ business owners — up 7 points year over year.

Top Workplaces USA (Three Consecutive Years, 2022-2024)

Including 2022 Culture Excellence Award for Innovation, Professional Development, and Employee Well-Being

While these are company awards, product design played a meaningful role in creating the experiences that earned this recognition.

Skills & Expertise

Community Involvement

I value sharing what works with others in the design community. Throughout my career, I've held board positions and speaking engagements with AIGA, IxDA, and CreativeMornings, along with talks at companies, colleges, and non-profits. Quality design thinking spreads when we openly discuss what we've learned in the trenches. It's a privilege to share 20 years of design experience with professionals and those just beginning their journey.
